Journey into the Unknown (yellow & red)

1 – 15 November 2014

David Sherry, Journey into the Unknown (yellow & red)

Documentary footage and wearable sculpture resulting from David Sherry’s performance on 31st October which was part of Derry’s Halloween celebrations, comes together to create the exhibition Journey into the unknown (yellow & red). The exhibition is presented in the gallery’s library space.

Commissioned by CCA, with the kind support of Derry City Council, Journey into the unknown (yellow & red) was a performance that involved the artist walking the streets of Derry, attracting the curiosity of onlookers and passers-by. The wearable sculptures have no clear purpose, identity, or design. A number of hands, made with stuffed colourful fabric, protrude and point in contradictory directions. Although Journey into the unknown (yellow & red) can be seen as a humourous interuption into the expected patterns of everyday life, it can also been seen as a response to the pressures of making a choice or choosing a path.
